The Fitness Lifestyle

What is at stake?

The pace and stress associated with modern day life create significant challenges to establishing a lifestyle that incorporates good fitness habits.

Collectively, the majority of our nation’s population has never been less ‘fit’, in worse health, nor at greater risk of fatal disease.

The majority of all chronic health issues, including sickness and disease often associated with aging, can be reduced and often eliminated through the sustained application of proper exercise and nutrition.

Misinformation about health, fitness, and proper nutrition is pervasive and persistent leaving people confused and uninformed.

The most current research completed in the health and human sciences arena unequivocally establishes that the single most important element in preserving good health, preventing disease, and extending life is a sound, properly managed fitness program.

The price being paid:

Chronic obesity in 80% of our adult population.

Increased incidents of death due to congestive heart failure caused by poor health and fitness practices.

Rampant escalation in health care costs.

"The Fitness Lifestyle"

Fitness is most accurately defined as the measure of an individual’s ability to prevent disease through a sound preventative program incorporating 6 key behavioral factors:

  1. Good health habits (no smoking, excessive drinking, drugs, or environmental toxins)
  2. Sound nutrition
  3. Foods and supplements rich in a broad spectrum of antioxidants
  4. Sufficient exercise to produce physical fitness equal to and exceeding the demands of your lifestyle
  5. Maintenance of a low-stress psychosocial existence
  6. Regular visits to your health care provider

A Lifestyle is defined as, an internally consistent way living that reflects the attitudes and values of an individual.

A Fitness Lifestyle then, is established when the 6 behavioral factors of fitness become habits which reflect the positive attitude of an individual and demonstrate the value they place on their health and level of fitness.

A Fitness Lifestyle then, is established when the 6 behavioral factors of fitness become habits which reflect the positive attitude of an individual and demonstrate the value they place on their health and level of fitness.A Fitness Lifestyle is not just about diet and exercise, weight loss, muscle mass and cardiovascular conditioning. It does include these things, but it is most importantly about function. That is; your ability to function the way you want to; to do the things you want to do; to be as active as you want to be; and to enjoy the pursuits and activities you are passionate about; now and in the future.

Any program intending to develop optimal fitness must establish measures for not only your physical and psychological fitness, but must also educate you and develop your preventative fitness skills. This will allow you to take control of your health and allow you to live a longer more satisfying, and fit, life.

How not to do it!

A lean and healthy life is NOT about elimination, deprivation, and starvation.Once motivated to change, you need results. Diets cheat your emotions by providing quick initial results. But fail to provide for permanent change. No matter the fad; low fat. low carb, or low protein, all “diets” share the same fundamental flaw. The realities of “dieting” are that you must eventually stop dieting. When you do, the weight comes back., but what is worse, is that because you have deprived your body of critical nutrients, you end up with less lean mass and a higher percentage of body fat.

A lean and healthy life is NOT about elimination, deprivation, and starvation.

How to do it!

A fit lifestyle is about balance, moderation, substitution, and consistency.

It is about learning how to make healthy choices that taste good.

It is about understanding how your body produces energy and how the food choices you make do or do not fuel this process.

It is about learning how to develop and permanently maintain the healthy, happy, energetic lifestyle you desire without pain and inordinate sacrifice.

All lasting and successful health & fitness transformations are primarily based on good nutritional practices augmented with sound exercise programs providing the supporting balance.
